WWE News: Undertaker would have convinced Vince McMahon to cancel a story for the Divas Championship at WrestleMania

The evolution of women’s wrestling in WWE has not been easy over the years. Before the emergence of NXT, the fighters had a very different status than they have today.

They presence of women like Lita, Mickie James, Beth Phoenix or Trish Stratus managed to maintain the integrity of a division that was hardly taken into account.

In 2011, WWE signed Awesome Kong, who would become known as Kharma. Despite her short stay in the company.

The possibility of her winning the Divas Championship at WrestleMania was considered, which would be renamed the WWE Women’s Championship.

However, the idea was ultimately scrapped, reportedly because of Michelle McCool and the Undertaker’s relationship with Vince McMahon.

In this sense, in the latest edition of his podcast, Wrestling with Freddie, former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. revealed that Undertaker managed to convince.

Vince McMahon to cancel this story. Here we leave you with the most outstanding statements from him, transcript courtesy of Fightful:

Stephanie McMahon asked Prince Jr. to write a storyline leading up to a matchup between Kharma and Beth Phoenix at WrestleMania.

“Stephanie McMahon commissioned me to write a Divas story, which they called ‘the Divas Title.’ The wrestlers were Divas then,

Which always seemed very stupid to me. So this was the story I was writing and she said ‘ We’re going to sign Awesome Kong’, which was this fighter named Kia Stevens.

We had another wrestler named Beth Phoenix, who actually wrestled in high school on the boys’ team. She lifted weights, she was strong, muscular, but not overly defined, more of a Bruce Lee type, like a stocky woman.

Who could go in there and pick anyone up and crush them. So those two names were the ones that assigned me to write a match for WrestleMania.

Now, this was not a request from Vince (McMahon), or from Kevin Dunn. It was a request from Stephanie McMahon.

Who was working in the women’s division and making it mean something at the time with incredibly limited success.

But you can look at where she is now, and she has put her imprint on each and every one of those steps to the top which is where I feel like they are now.

So my match for WrestleMania was going to have Awesome Kong, who hadn’t been called Kharma yet.

Which was how they tried to make her debut before she left the company. She had Beth Phoenix as the babyface, and Awesome Kong as the heel.

So how do you introduce this woman? Well, the way they did it, or tried to do it, was these videos of a Barbie doll having its head ripped off.

The idea behind that was that there was this monster, who was going to be called ‘Kharma’, who hates all pretty girls and wants to destroy them.

Because Barbie doesn’t represent what a real woman is. She is a fraud, and all these women have been cheated. They took bits of my story when they made their videos.

Even though the idea for the Barbie doll wasn’t mine. But there was more: Kia could speak. So I thought it would be nice to let her tell her story.

I like it when the heels tell her story more than when the babyfaces do. I feel like, in the case of babyfaces, someone else should tell her story.

Otherwise, they are talking about how great they are. But a heel can tell you the philosophy of him and you can hate him for it.

You can support him, and in this case, I thought we could have a little bit of both.”On the boost that Kharma was going to receive

“So you have this woman who wants to destroy all these perfect Barbie dolls. Girls like the Kelly Kelly they had there, whose real name is Barbie.

Her birth name is Barbie. They called her Babs, I think that was her nickname. She was super cool. The idea was that her first victim would be Kelly Kelly.

Since she (Kharma) started destroying all the girls who weren’t really going to compete for the championship, these could be simple matches for her.

In the meantime, we were booking the first real challenge that she was going to have, which was Natalya Neidhart, who was going to make it a bit difficult for her. But Nattie would also end up losing. This brings us to Gail Kim.

Who had a history with her in TNA and had just been signed by the company as well. This was going to be the first test that our Awesome Kong would have.

Gail would carry out some offensive, but she would finally fall. That’s when Kong would call Michelle McCool the Divas Champion, I mean Women’s Champion.

In this way I would call her and say: ‘I’m going for that title’. I am writing the story. All I’ve been told is, ‘Hey, write me this WrestleMania story.

It’s not just Kia and Beth, it’s, you know, I want you to include all of our Divas in there. So that’s why you have this long backstory. So I write this. I give it to Steph.

She likes it a lot, as does Michael Hayes. He goes all the way up to Vince and is approved. But the match at WrestleMania is not guaranteed. That was the goal.”

Prince Jr. notes that when explaining to Michelle McCool that she would lose the title.

At the Royal Rumble, she got emotional, not realizing that she would lose it before WrestleMania. That is why the former WWE writer tried to transform

The WrestleMania match into a triple threat between Phoenix, Kharma and McCool. However, perhaps it was too late and the idea would be scrapped.

“I’m going to the Stanford office. I’m an hour into the day. I’m trying to sneak a promo into Brian Kendrick, so he could get some kind of head start on it.

With this guy, Ezekiel Jackson, that’s what they called him, his real name.” It was Rycklon. Michael (Hayes) says, ‘Freddie, I want to talk to you.’

I walk into his office. He tells me, ‘You probably have some crazy fans, right?’ I said, ‘Yes, I have a few.’ He tells me: ‘Let me show you something.’

He opens a drawer. He’s like, ‘Look at this shit on me,’ and he shows me a picture and it’s a big leg with a tattoo of his on it. I said, ‘What do you have?’

And he told me: ‘That’s me.’ I said, ‘Well, I know, but did you get that tattoo?’ And he tells me: ‘Fuck, no, that’s from a fucking crazy’. I started dying of laughter.

So now I’m unarmed, and he folds his arms and leans across the desk. The guy is a lifelong professional wrestler. He is not a manager, but he is trying to be a manager.

After about six months, he and I were getting along fine. He’d say to me, ‘Freddie, that was bullshit,’ or ‘Freddie, that was good.’ …we understood each other at that time…

But this was when he was still trying to be super professional, folding his hands and saying, ‘Freddie, there’s a problem with your diva story, and we need to talk about it.’ I said that?

What is the problem?’ He says, ‘It’s over.’ I said, ‘What happened? He told me, ‘Well, Michelle told me that you talked and that she didn’t like the story, so it’s over.’

I said, ‘Was I supposed to ask him about all this?’ He says, ‘Freddie. She talked to Undertaker, Undertaker talked to Vince, the story is over.

Awesome Kong finally made his WWE debut at the 2011 Extreme Rules event. Under the ring name Kharma, he ripped Michelle McCool apart after her last match in WWE.

McCool lost to Layla in a match where the loser would leave the company. As for the Divas Title, it would be necessary to wait.
