WWE News: Vince McMahon’s vision for Sonya Deville in WWE

SmackDown Superstar Sonya Deville guest-starred on the Out of Character Podcast to discuss her role as a WWE Authority Figure, beginning in January 2021.

The 28-year-old spoke about where the inspiration for her character came from and how Vince McMahon envisioned her character.

“A lot of what I do comes from Stephanie,” said Deville.”Looking back at the old Stephanie stuff, I think that’s Vince’s vision for me, a Stephanie-like character. When I step into the ring, I step into the ring as an authority figure.

I become my power in my role how I see fit and how I can use it to my own advantage and enjoy it, just like Steph and Vince did. I learned a lot from their work.”

Since taking on her role as an authority figure, Deville has played few matches. She returned before the Royal Rumble and has recently wrestled at Elimination Chamber in Saudi Arabia.

The former Fire & Desire member mentioned a conversation she had with Vince McMahon before their match at Elimination Chamber, where she was heavily booed by the fans.

Sonya Deville said that at that moment she knew Vince was right about putting her out for a while and that the story she was told would pay off.

“About halfway through that role, I went up to Vince and said, ‘When do I get back in the ring?

When do I get back in the ring?’ I kind of bugged him and he said, ‘Just wait’ and then a few weeks ago he pulled me aside and said, ‘Aren’t you glad you waited?’

It was kind of an acknowledgment from him that I can look at the capital and work we put into this character and now she can go anywhere and do anything,” Deville said.

“That was a cool moment: wait, he’s right, we put a lot of work into this character, it was very consistent and long-lasting and you don’t get that often.

Sometimes things are short-lived and only last a couple of weeks and it’s cool “To be a part of something longer and more enduring because then when you do something different and the fans face that, they’re excited.
