After his appearances in WWE between the years 1994 to 2003 and 2006 to 2009, Jeff Hardy was hired again along with his brother Matt in April 2017 during the road to WrestleMania 33.

The two competitors performed together until Jeff suffered a injury in September that halted his role at the company. The following year, Jeff would play a solo role on SmackDown where he went on to lift the United States Championship for 90 days.

The subsequent meeting with his brother Matt and victory for the tag-team titles of the blue brand was paused by a second injury that forced them to leave the titles vacant.
