Euro 2020: The UEFA Euro 2020 is finally set to take place this year amidst the global Covid-19 pandemic. As a result of the risk taken, we have seen players affected with the Covid-19.
The risk of playing the event during Covid-19 was always bound to catch up soon and it has. Players have tested positive recently during preparations for the Euros.
As a result, the affected players had to isolate themselves from the group or were ruled out of the Euros due to the strict protocols in place.
We have already witnessed players who have tested for the virus and hampered their team’s preparations. These players are:
Sergio Busquets
The Spain captain tested positive for the COvid-19 virus and was sent into isolation after the friendly match against Portugal on 4th June.
It was played amidst crowds which could have been the reason for him catching it.
As a result, he has gone into isolation and so has the rest of his team members.
Spain had to play Lithuania in another friendly and instead the Spanish under-21 side represented the country in that match.
Diego Llorente
Spain defender, Diego Llorente tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the Euros.
He was the second player after country-man Busquets to have tested positive for the virus.

This too happened after the Spain vs Portugal match took place.
Dejan Kulusevski
The versatile Swedish player tested positive ahead of their opening match against Spain.
This had affected Sweden’s preparation as he is an important cog in the team’s campaign this season.
Having lost Zlatan due to injury, Sweden would hope that once Kulusevski completes his isolation, he is able to return to the national line-up.
Matthias Svanberg
Another Sweden player in Matthias Svanberg tested for the virus as a result, he was put into isolation for a minimum of 10 days as per the protocols.

This was soon after team-mate Kulusevski tested positive for the virus.
Jasper Cillessen

The Netherlands international goal-keeper tested positive for the Covid-19 virus days after the squad announced.
Oranje did not want to take the risk of Covid protocols as it could hamper the player’s mental health. As a result, he had pulled out of the Euro 2020 due to the virus.
The Valencia goalkeeper also slated to be the No 1 choice for the Holland side in the Euro 2020.
