Moore’s late goal earns a point for Wales against Switzerland; finishes 1-1


Wales 1-1 Switzerland: It finished all square in Baku as Wales drew 1-1 with Switzerland in the Group stage match of the Euro 2020 at the Baku Olympic Stadium on Monday.

Embolo gave the Swiss a deserved lead but Moore’s header in the 74th minute ensured it ends honours even.

FIRST HALF

Switzerland began the game brightly as they passed the ball around the defense and patiently look to carve an opening.

Mbabu came close to scoring the opener but he headed the ball wide of the post as the Swiss threatened.

However, even with Switzerland having all the momentum; it was Wales who had the first shot on target.

Sommer made an excellent save as he tipped Moore’s header over the bar to keep the score 0-0.

Apart from this, Wales did not trouble the Swiss goal much whereas the home side looked more threatening.

Ward made a quick save with his feet to keep away Schar’s effort from close range.

Seferovic came close in another moment but he could not get the curl on his shot as it went wide.

The Swiss forward once again had a good chance but blasted his shot over as we reached half time.

ImageIt was a pretty decent half from the Swiss point of view as they came close but were not clinical on goal.

Whereas, Wales needed more command from their players as they were being dispossessed quiet easily.

SECOND HALF

The Swiss side began the second half positively as Embolo utilized his pace and had his shot turned away by Ward from close range.

ImageFrom the resulting corner, the away side took the lead as Embolo headed home from Shaqiri’s cross for 1-0.

The Mönchengladbach striker held off the challenge from Roberts and headed home with authority.

It was a deserved lead for Switzerland on the basis of play.

Embolo looked to double the lead soon enough but his effort went wide of the post.

Switzerland looked clearer and more direct in their plans which were executed well.

Whereas Bale and Co lacked an impetus in attack and energy.

ImageHowever, a corner brought about success for Wales from nowhere as Moore flicked home from Morrell’s cross to equalize.

Then on, Wales had a spring in their step and began to exude confidence in their play.

It was game on from there as either side looked to score the winner.

Gavranovic felt he scored the winner but the VAR ruled it out for offside and Wales breathed a sigh of relief.

There was no time for more action as it finished 1-1 at Baku with Wales snatching a point late in the piece.
