Last season, Bayern Munich won all the domestic titles required apart from the UEFA Champions League trophy.

The Ballon D’or does recognize apart from individual talent, the ability to win silverware as well. Here is where Robert Lewandowski ticks off the first box.

Lewandowski played a major part in Bayern Munich picking up their 9th successive and his personal 7th consecutive Bundesliga title last season.

Apart from the Bundesliga title, the DFB Pokal, DFL- Super Cup trophy and FIFA Club World Cup was also lifted by Bayern Munich.

Trophies account for a major part when it comes to the individual receiving the Ballon D’or and the Polish striker has ensured that he is well within contention to do so.

The German side were on top once again last season when they won the Bundesliga title for the 9th consecutive season running with 13 points to spare.

Finishing on top with 78 points, Bayern were well out of sight and a major reason for this was the awe-inspiring form of Robert Lewandowski.

Robert scored a record-breaking 41 goals in the 2020-21 Bundesliga season across 29 appearances, breaking Gerd Müller’s 1971-72 season of 40 goals.

With virtually the last kick of the game against Augsburg, Lewandowski sealed a win for Bayern on Matchday 34 with a goal that sent him into the history books of Bayern Munich and Bundesliga.

41 goals and 7 assists in 29 appearances is officially his best season with the Bavarian side and puts him in good stride to win the trophy this time around.

Consistency

ImageThe recently concluded 2020-21 season was the 6th consecutive season where Lewandowski had scored 40+ goals across competitions for Bayern Munich.

The sheer consistency, desire to keep finding the back of the net requires tremendous fitness, concentration and work-rate, where the striker aces.

He was much more consistent in the previous season than his counterpart in Messi, Jorginho; who have also been nominated for the top prize.

Lewandowski finished with 1.41 goals scored per game average just in the Bundesliga last season; which was mind-boggling.

New season- No problem

ImageThe Polish striker continued from where he left off last season and took his form into the current 2021-22 season of Bundesliga.

Robert Lewandowski has already scored 13 and 8 goals respectively in the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League this season.

Apart from this, he has scored 8 goals and provided 4 assists in Poland’s World Cup Qualification campaign as well.

Deserving after 2020 cancellation

The pandemic resulted in the cancellation of the event last year, where undoubtedly Robert Lewandowski was denied the chance to lift the title.

But come 2021, there does not seem to a more genuine and deserving candidate to lift the Golden prize.

In the Champions League this season particularly, Robert Lewandowski broke the record of quickest to 80 goals in the competition.

He surpassed footballing royalty Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo; by getting to the mark in in just 100 appearances following a hat-trick vs Benfica.

The UEFA Champions League is the best against the best and when one can be so clinical there, there is very little chance of not being recognized.

Apart from the mentioned record and statistics, Robert Lewandowski is DESERVING of a Ballon D’or and we hope to see him lift it in November 2021.
