Clubs failing in 2021: The new football season in 2021-22 was set to bring back smiles to one and all across the world with the return of fans.

With the world slowly restoring to normalcy, clubs used the summer to find a way to bring back fans to the stadiums and have successfully managed so.

But there are some of the biggest clubs with huge fan bases having failed to make an impact this season, which has been disappointing.

They have not started their season well and have fallen off the pace so much, that they seem no more in the race for the title.

We look at the top 5 clubs that have failed to make an impact this season.

Juventus

The Bienconeri had to make do with a last-minute departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United in the summer, leaving them heavily weak up top.

Juventus have failed to make up his absence in the field have performed poorly this season.

With a number of players missing out due to injuries and an unsuccessful transfer window, Juventus are playing catch up in the Serie A.

The Italian side is currently sitting 8th in the table with 18 points from 12 matches; having picked up only 5 wins and suffered 4 losses.

In the initial games of the season, they were escaping with late goals but with a leaky defence and injury concerns, the losses began to mount.

Currently, Allegri is hoping to restore the tide before they drop further off than the fourteen-point gap between them and table toppers, Napoli.

The Red Devils began the season with a demolition job of Leeds United 5-1 at home, with made the fans believe that this season would be their Man United’s.

With the arrivals of Varane, Sancho and particularly, Cristiano Ronaldo; the Old Trafford faithful believed in that United was getting back to the top.

But sadly, the hopes faded away pretty quick with Manchester United not playing to their best abilities.

Amateur mistakes and losses at hands of Young Boys, Leicester City, Aston Villa, West Ham did not push the hopes up.

This was further blown away by the 5-0 and 2-0 thrashings by Liverpool and Manchester City at home.

The losses have not only hit the fans hard but has also put the manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s job on the line.

Manchester United is in 6th place with 17 points currently and 9-points off the pace to table toppers, Chelsea. In such a competitive league, a gap of this margin puts the ailing side on the backfoot.

Barcelona

Messi’s departure was the shot in the arm Barcelona did not need but received as their captain left for PSG on a free transfer.

Barcelona’s season felt all lost as soon as it began with a thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich in the UCL followed by successive draws against Granada and Cadiz.

The performance levels of the club in this season dropped significantly. This was also doubled by the absence of many players due to injury issues.

Barcelona is in 9th place currently with just 17 points from 12 matches; having drawn 5 and lost 3 matches each.

Ronald Koeman faced the axe for the poor start and was sacked from his job with Xavi replacing him.

The Catalan side are 11 points off the top of the table and would need to turn things around pretty quick if are to restore any contention hope this season.

Xavi’s arrival could well spark a momentum shift but with the players at hand, this will be a process and overnight success is not taking place.

The Barcelona faithful have been left on the edge knowing their UCL status this season hangs on a knife edge as well.

Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur’s season began on a wonderful note with 3 successive league wins under new manager, Nuno Espirito Santo.

But an away trip loss to Crystal Palace and home loss to Chelsea stopped the tide and thus began the drop.

Since then, Spurs lost 4 matches against the likes of Man United, Arsenal, West Ham and have dropped off drastically from the start of the season.

The loss to Man United proved to be the final nail in the coffin as Nuno was shown the door.

Antonio Conte was recently acquired to control the reigns of the North London club and fans aim to see a turnaround in fortunes.

Currently, Spurs sit in 9th place with 16 points and are 10 points away from the top of the table.

After the Harry Kane saga in the summer, the England striker has not been able to fire for his side as well this season having scored only 1 goal in 10 EPL matches.

Lille

Lille is currently in 12th place with 16 points from 13 matches; leaving them 18 points adrift of table toppers PSG.

With 5 losses and 4 draws this season, Lille are nowhere in the picture in terms of competing for the title

Jonathan David with 8 goals is their top scorer but has not found enough support from his teammates, which has resulted in Lille’s slip-ups.
