Morocco 0-0 Croatia: Morocco were held to a goalless draw against Croatia on Wednesday in their opening Group F match of the WC 2022.
There wasn’t much to split the sides with both sides having 2 shots each on target. Morocco lacked the cutting edge to get the better of Croatia, whereas the 2018 runners-up were happy to gain a point a piece.
FIRST HALF
Croatia began the half with spirit as they dominated early exchanges and got the likes of Modric and Perisic into the game.
However; Morocco had the first real chance of the half through En-Nesyri but the Sevilla did not read Ziyech’s cross.
There wasn’t much to choose from between the two sides as the game ebbed and flowed but lacked clear cut chances at goal. Modric and Perisic came close but their efforts went over the bar
Croatia picked up their spirits as the half progressed and Vlasic nearly scored the opener; only for Bounou to smother away his strike as he got big.
SECOND HALF
The African side has a good chance in the 2nd half to get the opener as well but Mazraoui’s header was denied by Livakovic.
Hakimi too had an effort denied by the Croatian keeper, as Morocco looked the only desirous team in this half.
Croatia lacked the pace as the game progressed and were happy to settle around with short passes instead of quick runs.
Morocco tried their best but all in all couldn’t do much to split the Croatian defence and had to settle for a point.
Although; on the balance of play Morocco should have got more from the match.
There have been more 0-0 draws (3) in the 2022 World Cup so far than there was in the entirety of the 2018 World Cup (1).
