Cameroon and Serbia play out a thrilling 3-3 draw in Group G clash; stay alive in the World Cup 2022


Cameroon 3-3 Serbia: In an absolute Group G thriller, Cameroon recovered to earn a point with a 3-3 draw vs Serbia at the Al Janoub Stadium on Monday.

Castelletto scored the opener for Cameroon before Serbia struck twice through Pavlovic and Milinkovic-Savic before half-time. Mitrovic made it 3-1 for the Serbian side before Aboubakar and Choupo-Moting scored within 3 minutes of each other.

This point leaves both sides in with a chance to progress to the Round of 16.

FIRST HALF

Serbia began the contest on the front foot and within 10 minutes had their first effort on target.

Mitrovic struck the post from a tight angle after he played a smart one-two with Tadic. The Fulham striker had another opportunity on goal but lashed his effort wide from close range, missing two important chances.

Cameroon got themselves more involved in the contest and succeeded in the 29th minute when Castelletto scored from close range.

Tolo’s cross was flicked towards the defender, before he completed an easy finish to score his 1st goal for the country.

Kunde had his chance at goal towards the end of the first half but was saved before he lashed the rebound wide.

Serbia got their moment of glory in first half extra time as Pavlovic headed home from Tadic’s free-kick to equalize.

No sooner did they score than they doubled the lead with Milinkovic-Savic curling a super goal as we reached half time. It was a complete turnaround from Serbia but they knew the game was still open.

SECOND HALF

Serbia could not have begun the 2nd half in a more emphatic fashion as Mitrovic completed a brilliant team goal to triple his side’s lead.

It was a thrilling move between the Serbian players in Cameroon’s defensive third before the Fulham striker slid home from close range.

Cameroon went onto the backfoot but continued their surge in search of getting back into the game.

Aboubakar pulled one back for the African side in the 64th minute after he chipped over the goalkeeper from Castelletto’s pass. Initially given offside, VAR overturned the decision.

The goal-scorer turned provider in the 66th minute when Choupo-Moting slid home from close range to equalize. Mitrovic had 2 late chances to send Serbia ahead but could not score as the game ended 3-3.
