Axar Patel: The rise of an incredible all-rounder in World Cricket

Axar Patel a left arm orthodox spinner and self proclaimed all rounder from Gujarat is the hot topic in the international cricket series between India and England because of his match winning performances, and when everyone was doubting that who will replace Ravindra Jadeja in this series because no has that experience which he owes and who will be the partner of Ashwin on Indian soil against England in this series.

India tries Shahbaz Nadeem as the replacement of Jadeja against England but it didn’t work and India lost the test match because Ashwin was all alone in that match and didn’t get well support from his left handed orthodox spinner. Then a name came in the Indian squad called Axar Patel who didn’t play the first test because he was injured and in his debut test match at Chennai took 7 wickets with a five wicket haul in the second inning.

And who can forget the third test match which was played on his home ground at Ahmedabad and this local boy with his magical spell finished the test match in just 2 days where not a single English batsman could find the answers of his questions which he was asking through his deliveries and became the first Indian bowler to take 11 Wickets in a day night test match.

Axar’s journey has taken many ups and downs to reach here. He played white ball cricket as primary spinner of the team and was the part of the 2015 ODI World Cup but didn’t get the chance to play the game but in 2017 Champions Trophy Jadeja was chosen over him because of his experience and after what Jadeja did in England, Axar was forgotten by the selectors.

But your hard work and determination always pushes you the glory and the same happened to Axar Patel who is also called ‘Bapu’ by his teammates and got the test call and has again come forward to tell selectors I am also here.

He has taken 18 wickets in just 2 test matches and was even awarded as ‘Man of the Maatch’ in the second test at his home ground.

Axar has played 38 One day matches with 45 wickets in which 34/3 his best and 11 T-20 Matches with 17 wickets with 17/3 his best figure .

Axar has now proved his ability and has created a dilemma to the selectors to choose between him and Jadeja when he will recover or they will go with both of these spinners.
