Bruno-Cavani run the show as United beat Roma 6-2 in UEL semis 1st leg


Bruno and Cavani ran the show as Manchester United beat Roma 6-2 in UEL semi-finals 1st leg at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
A brace each for Bruno and Cavani followed by strikes from Pogba and Greenwood lit up Old Trafford.
Pellegrini and Dzeko’s goals in the first half did not count for much as Roma were blown away.
This was one of Manchester United’s best performances under Solskjær’s management.
United started off in the best manner possible as Bruno opened the scoring in the 9th minute.
A brilliant piece of combination-play from Pogba-Cavani-Bruno wreaked havoc for Roma.
ImageCavani laid off a brilliant first-time pass from Pogba for Bruno, as he lifted the ball over the keeper and scored for 1-0.
United were put under pressure within a matter of minutes as Pogba conceded a penalty via hand-ball.
Pellegrini comfortably dispatched the penalty and made it 1-1.
Lopez made a fine save to deny Pogba’s shot from range as United continued to mount pressure.

Mkhitaryan’s pass in the build up was a thing of beauty as he took United’s defenders out of the game.
United had the bulk of possession but could not break down the visitors once they took the lead.
Cavani could have equalized in the extra time but his shot was saved by the rushing Mirante. The Uruguayan should have put that into the net.

Roma’s balance of play was affected in the first half itself as they had to make 3 substitutions due to injury issues.
In the second half, it was all United as the home side played out one of their best 2nd half performances under Ole.

Once again, it was the trio of Pogba-Bruno and Cavani that created the goal.
Manchester United had a spring in their step once they scored and looked for more.
United made it 3-2 in the 64th minute as Cavani scored his second of the night with a simple tap in after the keeper fumbled on Wan-Bissaka’s shot.
It went from bad to worse as Roma conceded a penalty from Smalling’s foul on Cavani at the byline.

The Frenchman got onto Bruno’s cross ball and headed past Mirante.
Greenwood came in as a sub and got his goal as well.
