Chelsea-Atlético Madrid top inter-transfers ever; check out list


Chelsea and Atlético Madrid have seen a number of transfers take place between each other over the past few years.
Top players from either side have made the switch and have succeeded in bringing glory to their teams while some have not been able to do so.
We will look at the top transfers of players shifting base to either sides and how they impacted their stay at the clubs.
ALVARO MORATA
ImageThe Spanish striker played for Chelsea from 2017-20 which included an 18-month loan deal to Atletico Madrid for the 2019 season.
During his stay at Stamford Bridge, he won the FA Cup in 2017-18 season.
He was also part of the Chelsea squad that lifted the Europa League title the 2018-19 season.
But had made the switch to Atlético on loan in January 2019 and hence did not play the rest of the tournament after the group stage.
The loan deal was turned into a permanent one in July 2019 as Morata enjoyed a good spell of football in Spain.
Morata scored 24 and 22 goals for the Blues and Atlético Madrid respectively.
THIBAUT COURTOIS
ImageThe Spain keeper joined Chelsea in 2011 and was immediately loaned to Atlético Madrid for that season which after good performances was increased to another 2 more seasons.
His impressive performances for Simeone’s side helped them win the La Liga title in 2013, Copa Del Rey 2012-13, Europa League 2011-12 and UEFA Super Cup in 2012.
He then made the return to Chelsea for the 2014 season till the 2018 season, where he won the Premier League in 2014-15 and 2016-17 season coupled with League Cup and FA Cup silverware in 2014-15 and 2017-18 respectively.
Thibaut Courtois won an individual award in the Golden Glove for having 16 clean sheets in the 2016-17 season for the Blues as well.
DIEGO COSTA
ImageThe maverick Spanish striker played for both clubs as well. He has three different spells in Spain which were in 2007-09, 2010-14, 2018-20 while he played for Chelsea from 2014-17.
In his first spell for the red half of Madrid, he could not manage to do much but his return spell from 2010-14 was a joyous one for Costa.
The Spanish striker was part of the squads that lifted the UEFA Super Cup in 2010, 2012 before another one in his third season in 2018.
Domestic honors were not far away as his brilliance helped Los Colchoneros win the Copa Del Rey in 2012-13, the La Liga title in the following season and Europa League in 2017-18 season.
In his first season for the Blues, he won the Premier League title and was the 3rd highest scorer in the league coupled with the League cup in the same season.
He was again victorious in the 2016-17 season as Chelsea lifted the Premier League crown and was runners-up in the FA Cup in the same season as well.
His goal scoring played a massive part in silverware coming to the Blues.
FERNANDO TORRES
ImageEl Niño as he was fondly called was one of the top strikers during his playing days.
Fernando Torres was part of the Atlético Madrid youth team and later one played a part in the senior team as well.
He signed a contract with them and was part of the set up from 2001- 2007 where he scored 82 goals in the league.
Torres joined Atletico Madrid once again and was part of the side from 2015-2018 where he won the Europa League in 2017-18 and was runners-up in the Champions league in his first season on return.
At the time, Torres moved to Liverpool in 2007 and played for the Reds for 4 years.
He then played for Chelsea from 2011-15 where he succeeded with silverware rather than goal scoring as he won the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in 2011-12.
Chelsea beat Benfica 2-1 in extra time to win their first ever Europa League title in which Torres scored the first goal.
