Eng vs Ind: Sunil Gavaskar & Nasser Hussain witnessed a fierce verbal battle during day 1 of third test match

Eng vs Ind: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar and former England captain Nasser Hussain witnessed a fierce verbal battle during preparations ahead of the third Test match being played between England and India.

Nasser had recently said that the current Virat Kohli-led team will not be threatened like the previous generations, on which Gavaskar was very angry.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain wrote in a column for the Daily Mail that, “Virat is leading this Indian team at the right time and he is the right person for the job.

Their players, especially the fast bowlers, want Virat to captain as aggressively as he did in the Lord’s Test match. During a pre match show on Sony Six, Gavaskar asked some sharp questions to Nasser Hussain about his new column.

The period of aggression started under Ganguly’s captaincy: Hussain

Gavaskar: You said that this Indian team probably won’t be threatened like the previous generation. May I know if you are talking about a generation and what does bullying mean here?

Hussain: I think what Kohli did, it will be difficult for England in many ways. I saw such aggression under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy and he started it. Virat is carrying forward the same aggression today. Even when Virat was not there in Australia, Rahane also did the same kind of captaincy.

India won Test match against better England team: Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar: But when you (Nasir) say that the Indian team of the previous generation was threatened, if this is spoken about my generation, I will feel very sad.  If you look at the records, we won in 1971, that was my first tour of England.

In 1974 we lost 3-0 because there were some problems going on with our team at that time.  In 1979 and 1982 we lost again, but in 1986 we won 2-0 which we could have won 3-0 so I don’t think my generation was bullied. I don’t think aggression means you always dominate the team in front. You can show your passion in the match and take the team together.

Hussain: I said this about Virat Kohli. I really like the way he handles the team as a captain and that’s what I wanted to say.  We all saw a glimpse of how Virat encourages his team to attack in the second Test.

Gavaskar: There is no logic in this. The question is whether previous generations were threatened and I think this is not right.
