ENG vs IND: “Unnecessary” Dinesh Karthik slams Siraj’s first Test Celebration against England

ENG vs IND: Dinesh Karthik feels that Mohammed Siraj’s gesture of ‘silence’ after dismissing England batsman Jonny Bairstow in the first Test was unnecessary.

However, he believes that this Indian fast bowler will understand these things further in his international career. Siraj was aggressive during his celebrations after the dismissal of Bairstow and also exchanged words with the batsman several times in the drawn Test.

Karthik, who will be handling commentary during the series, wrote in The Telegraph, “I think it was unnecessary when Siraj signaled the batsman to keep quiet after getting him out. You have already got out so why need it? This is the first lesson in Siraj’s international career.”

He said, “How many of us would have thought that Virat Kohli would come and pacify the excited teammate? But the Indian captain had to ensure at Trent Bridge that Siraj didn’t go overboard.

Karthik said, “I love the kind of cricket this team has played. The players do not hesitate to engage in verbal arguments with their rivals as did Siraj and KL Rahul. This is new age India.”

Karthik, who will play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League next month. He said there are different ways to be aggressive.

“Aggression is shown in different ways. For some players like Virat, Siraj and Rahul, it can be openly answering you on the face. I haven’t seen senior batsmen Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane getting aggressive in the same way. But that doesn’t mean they are not aggressive.

“But most of India’s fast bowlers stay away from physical aggression. He prefers to do his job with the ball, which is fine too. India has started doing well overseas mainly because of Virat’s fast bowling unit.

India have consistently won in Australia, now taking on England and will be taking on South Africa at the end of the year, which will provide opportunities to dominate the overseas team.

Karthik said, “This series becomes interesting because India have made it clear with their gestures and aggression that they are here to win. But it is very difficult to beat England on their soil despite all the weaknesses.”
