EPL: Chelsea draw against Southampton 1-1, stay fourth in the league table

Southampton held on to an admirable 1-1 draw against Chelsea following goals from Minamino and Mount for the respective sides.

Southampton took the lead in the 33rd minute courtesy a fine through ball by Redmond to Minamino, who with calmness and precision slotted home. By the end of the first half, this was Southampton’s only shot on target.

Chelsea hit back in the second half when a poor challenge by Danny Ings on Mason Mount got the Blues a deserved penalty due to an absolute rash challenge where Ings got none of the ball and most of the player.

Mount stepped up to roll it home and get Chelsea back on level terms at the 54th minute.

Vestergaard almost won the game for the hosts when his header hit the crossbar leaving Mendy rooted to the spot.

Southampton held on as Chelsea were nowhere near their best to claim a point.

Chelsea now move their attention to Europe where they play Atlético Madrid in the 1st leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash on 23rd February while Southampton play Leeds United in a midweek clash on the same day in the Premier League.
