IPL 2021: Top 5 contenders for the purple cap this year in IPL. The joy doesn’t reside only in the batting aspect but with the ball in hand, can turn the game at any given point of the IPL. The purple cap is one such honour for the most wickets holding by a bowler in the tournament.

After the introduction of the purple cap back in 2008, many have claimed it, Kagiso Rabada of DC for 2020. Let’s dive in and look at some contenders for the upcoming season 2021.

Pat Cummins:

Patrick James Cummins (born 8 May 1993), a right-handed fast seam bowler from Australia and currently playing for the KKR is a well-deserved player for the purple cap.

After a not-so-well season last year 2020, with only 12 wickets off 14 matches. He will look to regain his place in the top list of players and be crowned with the purple cap.

KKR bought Cummins last year for a whopping ₹15.5 crore and he had become the most expensive foreign player in the history of the tournament. However, Chris Morris broke this record as he was purchased by Rajasthan Royals for ₹16.25 crore this season.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar:

Bhuvneshwar Kumar Singh, a right-handed medium seam bowler for SRH is the leading wicket taker and leader of the SRH pace attack. With his exceptional control on the line and length and swing bowling will be the top threat in this season of the IPL.

With a very low stats from the IPL 2020, with only 4 matches and 3 wickets will look to make an impact this time. Around also being in an excellent form by playing in the recently concluded Indian vs England all format series will look to bag the title and the purple cap.

Rabada:

Kagiso Rabada (born 25 May 1995), a left-handed 25 years old fast seam bowler playing for DC. Who is the current holder of the purple cap by picking up 30 wickets from the IPL 2020. He will look to continue and defend his glory in this year’s IPL 2021.

He will be the key for DC this year around and will hope to send DC to glory days with the title and fulfil the dream from last year.

Kagiso Rabada picked up 30 wickets in 17 matches at an average of 18.26 and an economy rate of 8.34. 4 for 24 was his best figures in the tournament. He will be hoping to continue this momentum and the purple cap again.

Trent Boult:

Trent Alexander Boult, the left-handed fast seam bowler of MI will look to finish off what he started last year. Being an exciting addition to the squad and rowing MI to their 5th title of the IPL will look to bag the 6th with the purple cap.

Mumbai speedster Trent Boult with 25 wickets off 15 matches from last year, became ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance against Delhi in the final of the recently-concluded Dream11 IPL season. He will be looking to have the best season with MI and cap the purple for this season too.

Jasprit Bumrah:

He (born 6 December 1993), the right-handed fast seam bowler of MI with an unorthodox action has become India’s NO. 1 bowler across all formats. Bumrah has a natural skill and a talent to pick up wickets.

Bumrah will return to action in the IPL after he did not play white-ball leg of England’s 2021 tour to India and the final Test of the four-match series. With his pace and accuracy.

With 27 wickets off 15 matches in last year’s IPL 2020. He will be looking to claim his title as a team and purple cap as an individual player.
