Man City EPL Losses: Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been one of the driving forces of the EPL due to their exhilarating brand of football.

Since the Spaniard took over in 2016, Manchester City has won 3 Premier League titles alongside 7 domestic cup competitions honors as well.

The only trophy left for Pep to win in the blue half of Manchester is the UEFA Champions League; where they finished runners-up in 2020-21.

In the Premier League, he has groomed and got the best of his players which has led to successes in 3 of his 6- year reign.

However; during his time Pep has faced difficulty getting across the line against some sides that ended up doing the double over them.

Guardiola’s side has come across 4 such teams in the Premier League that managed to beat his side twice in one season, which is praiseworthy given their quality.

Manchester City’s quality and stock raises every season and yet to come up with a game-plan and reign supreme over them has to be credited.

Without further ado, we look at these top 4 teams in the EPL that have beaten Man City twice in one season.

Chelsea (2016/17)

In his maiden season as City boss, Pep Guardiola was defeated by Chelsea twice in the 2016-17 season.

The sides met first at the Etihad in December, where Chelsea won 3-1 against Man City’s 9-men.

Costa, Willian and Hazard scored for the Blues on that day while Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho were the red-card offenders.

Chelsea was able to beat Manchester City at Stamford Bridge as well by a 2-1 margin in April, 2017.

On that day, Eden Hazard stole the show with a brace of efforts on either side of Aguero’s first half strike.

This was Pep’s first instance of being doubled over by a English side.

Wolves (2019-20)

ImageThe Wolves side became the 2nd team to do the double over Manchester City in the 2019-20 season.

At the Molineux, it finished 3-2 in favour of the hosts after City went 2-0 up before a 2-0 away win at the Etihad ensured the double was complete by Nuno’s men.

In the first leg; Adama Traore, Jimenez and Doherty’s second half strikes turned the game on its head.

Adama was the tormentor once again at the Etihad as he scored twice in that match. Both results proved costly as City ended up being pipped by Liverpool to the title.

Manchester United (2019-20)

ImageManchester rivals, United was the other side that completed the double over Pep’s men in the 2019-20 season.

United beat City at the Etihad and Old Trafford by margins of 1-2 and 2-0 respectively.

At Etihad, Fernandes and Shaw were the scorers while in the latter, Martial and McTominay made the difference.

Like the Wolves result, these 2 losses proved costly in City’s inability to retain the EPL title (Covid season).

Tottenham (2021-22)

Tottenham are the recent inflictors of the double over Pep’s army in the current 2021-22 season.

The two sides kicked off the Premier League with an opening day fixture, where Spurs took the honors 1-0 at home thanks to Son’s goal.

On Saturday, Spurs completed the double with a late 3-2 victory over Manchester City to open up the title race.

Kulusevski broke the deadlock for the visitors before Gundogan equalized as both teams entered half time at 1-1.

Harry Kane got his scoring boots on in the 59th minute to push his side in front but a penalty in stoppage time got City on level terms through Mahrez.

But there was time for one more twist as Kane headed home in the 95th minute to dash City hearts once more.
