Ramsey and Roberts strike as Wales beat Turkey 2-0 in Euro 2020; check out


Wales 2-0 Turkey: Aaron Ramsey and Connor Roberts struck as Wales secured a 2-0 win over Turkey at the Olympic Stadium in Baku on Wednesday.

This victory takes Wales to the top of the standings in Group A of the Euro 2020.

FIRST HALF

Wales began the first half with confidence as they moved the ball along with an eye on goal.

They tested the Turkish keeper on first attempt as Cekir denied Ramsey with a fine block at his near-post.

It was time for Turkey to do the same as Ünder tested Ward with a strike on the half-volley, which was saved well.

ImageBale came close with his effort but just evaded the target as Wales threatened.

Ramsey had a glorious chance to break the deadlock as he latched onto Bale’s incisive pass; but a poor touch ensured he blazed his strike over the bar.

Wales’ Morrell made a crucial save off the line as Ayhan’s header was cleared to safety.

The Welsh side missed so many chances as Turkey breathed a sigh of relief for most of the half.

Finally, Wales broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute as Aaron Ramsey to send Wales 1-0 ahead.

A brilliant pass over the top from Bale was latched on by Ramsey as the ex-Arsenal player controlled it before guiding home.

ImageIt was a sublime ball from Bale which cracked opened the Turkey defense before Ramsey finished it.

This was the last action of the half as Wales went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

SECOND HALF

Turkey began the second start brightly as they looked to get themselves back into the contest.

They came out with an attacking desire as Wales were kept on the backfoot.

For much of the early part of the second half, the Welsh side could not keep the ball.

Turkey captain, Yilmaz had another good chance to get his side back on level terms but he lifted the attempt over the bar.

The Turks were throwing away the few chances they got and were suffering for it.

Wales, at the other end of the field had Ramsey’s shot saved by Cakir as his deflected effort was blocked well.

Celik compounded the problems for Turkey when he brought down Bale in box and conceded a penalty.

ImageHowever, Gareth Bale surprisingly and inexcusably skied his effort well over the bar; as Turkey survived.

As the half progressed, Turkey lost their composure and there were tired legs visible on their part.

The Turkish side came close right at the end when Demiral’s effort was denied by a reaction stop from Ward.

Wales doubled their lead in extra time and killed the game off as Connor Roberts stabbed home from close range.

ImageGareth Bale once again made an incisive run as he teased and ran past the Turkish defence before setting up an easy finish for Roberts; who did not disappoint.

The Welshman had an amazing night out as he kept Turkey on their toes and played a massive part in the nation’s victory despite his spot kick miss.

There was no time for more as Wales secured a 2-0 victory over Turkey in this contest.
