Real Madrid draw against Real Sociedad 1-1, stay 3rd on points table

Real Madrid squandered the opportunity to move up to second place and gain ground on the league leading rivals as they drew 1-1 against Real Sociedad at home on Sunday.
ImagePortu shocked the hosts with his headed opener but Vinicius Junior saved Zidane’s side with a goal late on to salvage a point.
Real Madrid cut a frustrated lot as they dominated proceedings having hit 20 shots but with only 2 on target. Sociedad had 2 shots on target, one of which was a goal.
The first half was dominated by the hosts with chances falling to Casemiro, Modric and Kroos but none of them could convert past Remiro.

The best chance fell to Mariano when he climbed above Gorosabel but could only smash the ball onto the crossbar from close range.
It was the visitors who took charge of the game once the second half began and they were duly repaid as Monreal’s exquisite cross was met with the head of Portu, who towered over Mendy to give his side a deserved 0-1 lead in the 55th minute.
ImageMadrid was not the same post conceding the goal and had few chances but could not cash in as Zidane cut a frustrated figure.
Zidane put in Duro to inject some pace and creativity into proceedings but he could not do much too.
ImageIt was Vinicius Junior in his 100th appearance for the club, who found the back of the net late on for the hosts to pull one back as Vasquez played in a low cross for Duro, who missed his kick entirely only for the Brazilian; who was behind him to turn home in the 89th minute.
Real Madrid frustratingly dropped points yet again to stay five points off the leaders and with the Madrid Derby on the weekend, that match will be extremely crucial for the Los Blancos.
Real Sociedad will be the happier side to come home with a point and stay in 5th position and play Levante next on Sunday.
