Barcelona-Atletico Madrid: Barcelona and Atletico Madrid share an important relation in the La Liga apart from being two competitive sides.

These two La Liga sides have given us some exciting contests as well in recent times with quality players on either side of the field.

In the current transfer window, Depay left the former side to join the latter team for €4 million after a rather underwhelming show and lack of playing time.

This made him the 5th player to join the Red Half of Madrid from Madrid rivals, Barcelona; making him join an elite list of footballers.

Thiago Motta

ImageThe current Bologna manager played for Barcelona for 6 seasons from 2001-2007, where he managed 96 league appearances scoring 6 times.

He was a part of the FC Barcelona team that won the La Liga in successive seasons during 2005, 2006 coupled with the UCL 2006 and Spanish Super Cup titles.

Motta made the move to Atletico Madrid in 2007, where he had a brief one season spell.

The Spanish striker moved to Atletico Madrid from Barcelona in the 2013-14 season and lifted the La Liga title in the same season.

After a three-season spell at FC Barcelona, where he won 8 titles including the La Liga and UEFA Champions League; Villa made the move.

It was a brief spell of one season but Villa impressed with 13 goals from 36 matches as Atletico won their 1st La Liga title since the 1995-96 season.

Antoine Griezmann

Griezmann moved to ex-club Atletico Madrid from the Blaugrana side on loan in the 2021-22 season for a year.

The Frenchman had earlier made a big-money move from Atletico to Barcelona before the return. Hence, it was a back to home situation for him.

His loan deal included an option to buy, which Atletico activated in October 2022 to ensure the Frenchman stayed.

Griezmann has not got back to his earlier Atletico Madrid days, where he was the club’s lead scorer but with his quality can assure he will be there soon.

After winning 13 trophies in 6 seasons for Barcelona, Luis Suarez made the move to  Atletico Madrid after Koeman announced he was not needed.

This made Suarez sign a two-year deal with Atletico Madrid in 2020-21; where he won a La Liga title.

He was the chief-architect of Atletico’s title winning campaign scoring 21 goals in 32 league appearances during the successful season.
