Highest spending Football Clubs: The January Transfer window has officially shut and many clubs have done some serious business during this time.

This Winter transfer window saw some spectacular business take place with a number of outgoings and incomings.

Across Europe, some clubs haven’t clicked as a unit and used this window to acquire significant talent that would increase their chances of competing.

Significantly, there are 5 clubs in Europe that did good business in order to galvanize and strengthen their sides for the next half of the season.

We look at the highest spending football clubs that have been active throughout the transfer market.

Everton

The Toffees spent a total of €37.5M on the January acquisitions. Not only were the transfers key, but also there was a change in management at the helm.

Rafael Benitez was replaced by Frank Lampard and the former-Chelsea man began his new duty with a flurry of signings himself, ensuring a positive return.

Everton signed the likes of Vitalli Mykolenko, Lucas Digne, Anwar El Ghazi (loan), Donny van de Beek (loan), Billy Crelin and Dele Ali during the window.

This is seen as a positive step in the right direction with Frank Lampard looking forward to starting his return to management in style.

Liverpool

ImageEverton’s Merseyside opponents, Liverpool were also active in this market as the Reds acquired 6 players in the window.

Liverpool spent a total of €45M on the acquisitions which involved the big money signing of Luis Diaz from Porto.

Swansea’s Rhys Williams also joined Klopp’s side on a one-year loan deal.

Jurgen Klopp will hope to see his new signings get the ball rolling once the season resumes after the winter-break.

Barcelona

Barcelona’s campaign has been nothing short of terrible and even with the arrival of Xavi, the Catalan side continue finding their feet.

Xavi’s men invested €55M in this transfer window and acquired three players including a dead-line day singing of Aubameyang from Arsenal. Ex-player, Adama Traore sealed a loan-move from Wolves as well.

They also purchased right winger, Ferran Torres from Manchester City in the early half of the window.

With these strong signings, Xavi has made his intentions clear that he wants to make the Catalan side one of the best in time to come.

Juventus

ImageThe Bienconeri hit the jackpot in this window with the signing of Fiorentina forward, Dusan Vlahovic for a huge sum.

Juventus has spent €97.7M in this window with the arrivals of Vlahovic, Zakaria, Gatti, Dragusin and Ihattaren.

Vlahovic was the huge talking point of the day as he is set to be the source of goals for the Italian side following Ronaldo’s departure in the summer.

Newcastle United

Ever since the new owners came in, it was a matter of time before Newcastle splashed the big bucks.

This transfer window was headlined by the Premier League side as they acquired 7 players for a total of €102.1M.

Amongst the singings was the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes, Chris Wood, Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Matt Targett (loan),

Matty Longstaff and Jake Turner were the other loan arrivals for the Magpies, which showed their intention to strike.

Defensive mid, Bruno Guimaraes is a statement singing and would look to begin his career with the Toons in style.
