Transfer News: Xabi Alonso to replace Marco Rose as manager of Borussia Mönchengladbach next season?


If reports are to be believed, Xabi Alonso is set to become the next manager of Borussia Mönchengladbach this summer.
The ex- Real Madrid midfielder will replace Marco Rose, who himself will become the manager of Borussia Dortmund next season; as Borussia Mönchengladbach coach.
Xabi Alonso has been the manager of Real Sociedad B team in the 2nd Division B league since 2019.
The Spanish midfielder won the FIFA World Cup in 2010, UEFA Euro in 2008 and 2012.
He also won the UEFA Champions League in 2004-05 and 2013-14 with Liverpool and Real Madrid respectively.
He has won 17 trophies for club and country which includes 3 Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich as well, La Liga title with Real Madrid and UEFA Super Cup with Liverpool as well.
Xabi currently coaches the club where he started his youth career before making a mark for the senior team, for whom he made his debut on January 14th, 2001 against Athletic Bilbao.
ImageImageHe then joined Liverpool in 2004 where he won the FA Cup for the Reds and the Champions League in that unbelievable night in Istanbul.
ImageHe also had stints in Real Madrid and Bayern Munich as well.
In 272 La Liga appearances, he scored 13 goals and provided 31 assists and was an important member of the La Liga title winning side in 2011-12.
He called it quits from international football on 27th August 2014 but continued playing club football for another three years.
ImageXabi Alonso played his final career club match for Bayern Munich on 20th May, 2017 along with teammate Philip Lahm; where the Bavarians won 4-1 at Freiburg.
Alonso was one of the most astute and intelligent midfielders in Spanish football history.
He represented Spain for 11 years and made 114 appearances for his national side, which makes him the seventh-most capped player in the nation’s history.
Borussia Mönchengladbach are 10th on the points table currently with 36 points to their credit after 26 matches.
