WWE Wrestlemania Backlash Result & Highlight: Rhea Ripley retain WWE Title, Rey and Dominik new Champs and more – 16th May 2021.
WWE Wrestlemania BACKLASH Result: After the intro, Kayla Braxton, Booker T, John Bradshaw Layfield and Peter Rosenberg greet the audience for the WWE WrestleMania Backlash Kickoff Show. The hosts go through the match card. Sheamus will issue an Open Challenge on the Kickoff Show.
The first video of the evening looks at the rivalry between Roman Reigns and Cesaro and the problem between Reigns / Jey and Jimmy Uso. Another video highlights the feud between SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks. Sonya Deville visits the hosts to discuss the Smackdown Women’s Championship Match. Raw Video Recap: Damian Priest challenged The Miz for a lumberjack match. Adam Pearce approved.
Backstage: Dominik Mysterio is confronted by Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. Both make fun of Dominik and want to let him pass, but Ziggler gives him a headbutt. Roode pushes Dominik against a road case and a metal door, but that’s not enough, because Roode continues to beat Dominik and wants to know if he’s ready for tonight. Finally, Ziggler & Roode throw a couch on Dominik. Several officials can be seen while the heels go away.
It will go ringside with Adnan Virk, Corey Graves and Byron Saxton.
Sheamus makes his way into the ring. Once there, he declares that he is ready for another Open Challenge, but he will not jeopardize his title. But someone will get the honor of stepping into the ring with the greatest WWE Superstar. Ricochet accepted the open challenge.

Open Challenge – Non-Title Match
Sheamus defeated Ricochet after the knee to the head
After the match: Sheamus takes the microphone. He puts on his jacket and hat before announcing that he has raised more challenges for his title than anyone else at WWE. Ricochet returns to the ring and grabs Sheamus’ hat and jacket. The Celtic Warrior is stunned when he is mocked by Ricochet. When Sheamus tries to grab Ricochet, Ricochet escapes.

05/16/2021 – Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida
Batista comments on some highlights of WrestleMania 37 in the PPV opening video. The other scenes hype today’s title matches and promote Batista’s new film “Army of the Dead”.
The intro is followed by the fireworks and the greeting of US commentators Adnan Virk, Corey Graves and Byron Saxton.
Before the first match of the evening, there is a video review of the Raw Women’s Championship Match.
1st Match
Raw Women’s Championship – Triple Threat Match
Rhea Ripley (c) defeated Asuka and Charlotte Flair after the Riptide against Asuka
In an Earlier Today video we see the arrival of Bobby Lashley & MVP.

Backstage: The Miz and John Morrison have a conversation. Miz asks Morrison if he’s going to run away from Damian Priest. Morrison recalls that Miz ran away from Priest on Monday. Miz reminds Morrison that he’s going to play the match because of Morrison. Morrison thinks he knows where the lumberjacks are and he promises to convince them.
Earlier Tonight: Dominik Mysterio was handled by Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode on the WrestleMania Backlash Kickoff Show.
Backstage: Dominik and Rey Mysterio are in the treatment room. Dominik is badly battered and still wants to wrestle, but Rey wants to take on Ziggler and Roode alone.
After the Dirty Dawgs reach the ring, Rey Mysterio goes out.
2. Match
SmackDown Tag Team Championship
Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio defeated Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode after Dominik’s Frog Splash against Robert Roode – the match started as a 2-on-1 handicap match, because the ailing Dominik only took part later Match part –Â TITLE CHANGE!
New SmackDown Tag Team Champions: Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio
After the match: Rey and Dominik Mysterio hug. Kayla Braxton steps into the ring to congratulate both of them. This is a very special moment for Rey as it was the first time a father and son team became champions at WWE. Dominik is proud to share this honor with his father and now it is time to celebrate.
Backstage: John Morrison sees the lumberjack locker room. When he opens the door, he sees zombies and runs away.
Jimmy Uso goes to Roman Reigns’ locker room. Jey is already there and wants to know where the champ is. Jimmy bothers the sign in the locker room, because there should be Roman Reigns & Jey Uso. However, they do need their own locker room, which may not be as beautiful as this, but their sign would say “Jimmy & Jey Uso – Tag Team Champions”. That would be the right thing to do instead of carrying Roman’s bags. When Reigns shows up, Jimmy wishes him good luck afterwards, because he’ll need it.
Backstage: John Morrison tells The Miz about the Zombie Lumberjacks, but the Moneymaker doesn’t buy this story from his buddy. When both leave the scene, the zombies slowly run after the two heels.
Before the next match, the commentators present a tweet from Batista stating that his friends “The Zombies” are here tonight to promote the “Army of the Dead” film.
After Damian Priest, The Miz and John Morrison have moved in, the zombie lumberjacks go to the ring. The Miz and John Morrison try to escape first, but there are too many zombies. Another zombie makes the commentators fear … The Miz and Damian Priest step into the ring for their match …
3rd Match
Lumberjack Match
Damian Priest defeated The Miz after the hit The Lights – during the match the zombies became Priest & The Miz attacked, Morrison also wanted to assert himself against the zombies, but he had no chance
After the match: The zombies lie down together on The Miz, while Priest celebrates his victory and shows it on the screen above the ring. There the film title appears: “Army of the Dead”.
This is followed by the first trailer for the next WWE PPV event “Hell in a Cell”, which will take place on June 20th.
Backstage:
Backstage, Jimmy Uso asks his brother what he will do if Reigns loses the title. Jimmy thinks the dressing door is more like “Roman Reigns and his B * tch!” should stand.
The next video sums up the story between Bianca Belair & Bayley.
4. Match
SmackDown Women’s Championship
Bianca Belair (c) defeated Bayley via rollup – at the end of the match Bayley repeatedly grabbed Belair’s braid, but the SmackDown Women’s Champ countered Bayle’s action
Backstage: Kevin Patrick is at MVP and speaks to him about the conversations with Braun Strowman from the previous week. MVP only says that Braun is not intelligent enough to become WWE Champion. Drew, on the other hand, sees the big picture. Nevertheless, MVP does not give the “Scottish Warrior” a chance. Even so, Lashley is at a disadvantage as he can lose without getting pinned. MVP still believes that Lashley will be victorious.

5th Match
WWE Championship – Triple Threat Match
Bobby Lashley (c) defeated Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre after Lashley’s spear against Strowman – during the match McIntyre promoted the WWE Champ through a screen on the stage, then Strowman countered the Claymore Kick from McIntyre and sent the Scottish Warrior along a power bomb through the commentator’s desk.

When Cesaro moves in, they switch to Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman and Jey Uso in the backstage area. Jey motivates Reigns, but the WWE Universal Champ questions Jey’s loyalty. Now he sounds like his brother, whom Jey should go looking for. Roman Reigns entered …
6. Match
WWE Universal Championship
Roman Reigns (c) defeated Cesaro in the guillotine choke, after Cesaro had lost consciousness, the referee ended the match – during the match Reigns worked several times on the right arm of Cesaro
After the match, Jey Uso enters the ring and honors Roman Reigns with a Samoan necklace.
Jey wants to attack Cesaro and gets permission from Reigns to do so. Jey knocks Cesaro down with a super kick. Then he beats him wildly and wants to have a splash from the top rope, but the music of Seth Rollins can be heard.
Seth gets in the ring and looks Reigns in the face. They both stare at each other until Reigns smiles. The next moment, Rollins beats Cesaro up.
Seth first pushes Cesaro against the ring staircase (including his arm) and then sends him over the commentator’s desk. Rollins throws Cesaro’s battered arm onto the desk before attacking the Swiss Superman with a steel chair. The third blow with the chair is against Cesaro’s ribs.
Rollins clamps Cesaro’s arm between the chair and then loudly announces that he is Seth “Freakin” Rollins and that no one is making fun of him. Rollins pushes Cesaro’s arm in the chair against the ring post. Cesaro is in great pain. Finally, Rollins stomps Cesaro.
Rollins returns to the ring and triumphs while the ThunderDome audience says “YOU S * CK!” chants. That ends WrestleMania Backlash.
