Roman Reigns retains WWE Universal Championship, beats Cesaro at WrestleMania Backlash.

Reigns beats Cesaro: During the WrestleMania Backlash broadcasts through WWE Network and Peacock. Roman Reigns managed to retain the WWE Universal Championship after defeating Cesaro hand-to-hand.

This main event of the most recent pay-per-view event.  After expelling Jey Uso from ringside, the champion provided a very even match against “The Swiss Cyborg.”  Cesaro became a danger to the reign of “The Tribal Chief” on multiple occasions.

Cesaro managed to resist the Guillotine and came very close to victory with a Sharpshooter.  However, nothing stopped Reigns from applying a second Guillotine and holding it until the Swiss was out of his mind.

In this way, Roman Reigns retains the WWE Universal Championship.  Recall that “The Big Dog” won the title 259 days ago at the Payback event.

On that day of August 30, 2020, Reigns defeated Braun Strowman and “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt in a No Holds Barred match to win the championship for the second time in his career.

Roman Reigns expelled Daniel Bryan from SmackDown

With his title win over Daniel Bryan on May 30 on SmackDown. Roman Reigns was able to get the leader of the “Yes Movement” out of the way once and for all.  However, a rejuvenated Cesaro decided to face him in order to get a title match.  “The Swiss Cyborg” successfully defeated Seth Rollins on the Throwback SmackDown special to get a new shot at the universal title.

Seth Rollins took care of Cesaro after the match

Once the fight was over, Seth Rollins made his entrance on the scene and faced Roman Reigns for a few seconds.  Quickly, “The Vision” pounced on Cesaro shouting “What did you think was going to happen?”  Rollins attacked the Swiss with a chair, damaging his right arm and crushing him against the barricade.  Seth would finish with a Stomp on Cesaro to close out tonight’s pay-per-view.
