ENG vs IND: 3 things India need to do to avoid blunder in third test against England

Eng vs Ind 3rd Test Updates: India vs England: Even though India is 1-0 ahead in the series of 5 Tests. But there are still many weaknesses such that it is difficult to win the series without removing them.

India lead the series 1-0 after winning the Lord’s Test. But there are still many such shortcomings, without removing which the dream of winning the series cannot come true. Especially it is most important for captain Virat Kohli to come in form.  There, Rishabh Pant will also have to show the same performance as the previous Australia tour. If India manages to do so, it should be easy to win a series in England after 14 years.

The third Test will be played between India and England from 25 August at Headingley (IND vs ENG Headingley Test). India lead the series 1-0 after winning the Lord’s Test by 151 runs. Even though Team India is ahead in the series.

But, there are still 3 Tests left and there are many such shortcomings, without which it will not be easy to win the series.  Especially the form of Indian captain Virat Kohli remains the biggest problem for India.

Kohli has been able to score only 62 runs in 3 innings of 2 Tests of the series.  In Nottingham, he became a victim of James Anderson on the very first ball.  However, after this, he was definitely seen in color at Lord’s. But still could not play big innings.

Virat is the strongest link of Team India’s batting. But for the last 21 months, not a single century has come off his bat. During this, he has played 49 innings in all three formats i.e. Test, ODI and T20. Even in the second Test against England at Lord’s (IND vs ENG), he could not play a big innings. Kohli scored 42 runs in the first innings and 20 runs in the second at Lord’s.  Kohli’s last international century was in November 2019 in a Test against Bangladesh. After this, since August 2021 i.e. 21 months, they have not been able to cross the 100 mark even once.

Kohli’s poor performance has affected the team

Talking about Kohli’s last 49 innings, he has been able to score only 3 half-centuries in 17 innings of 10 Tests during this period. During this, the Indian captain has scored 8 half-centuries in 15 innings of ODIs.

At the same time, when it comes to T20, he has scored 6 half-centuries in 17 innings. Kohli’s not scoring runs has also affected the performance of the Indian team. He captained India in 10 Tests during this period. But the team lost in 5 matches and won in 4. That is, India lost 50 percent of the test matches.

In 2018 Kohli won the Nottingham Test on his own

Virat’s batting is a guarantee of victory of the team in a way. This was also proved on the last England tour in 2018.  Then India lost the Test series by 1-4.  Then Team India had won only in Nottingham and in that match Virat’s bat spoke fiercely.

He scored 97 in the first innings and 103 in the second. Virat was the highest run scorer in that series. He scored 593 runs in 5 Tests. If Team India has to end the drought of 14 years this time, then it is necessary for Virat to come in form.

Pant’s poor performance increased the concern of Team India

Pant has not been able to leave his mark in the Test series against England so far. He has scored only 84 runs in 3 innings of 2 Tests. He has not been able to cross the 50-run mark even once. Pant lost his wicket for 22 runs in the second innings of the Lord’s Test. The point at which he was out. From there the match could have tilted towards England as well. Because then India had a lead of only 167 runs.

Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah added 89 runs for the 9th wicket to take the team’s lead beyond 250 and it proved to be decisive. If Team India has to win this series, then Pant will have to show the same game as the home series against Australia and this year against England.

Which route is also necessary to stop Joe Root

If there has been consistency in the performance of any one batsman in this series, then it is England captain Joe Root.

He has also scored 386 runs in 2 Tests at an average of more than 128. Root has scored 2 centuries and a half-century with his bat. In the first innings of Lord’s Test also, 180 not out came off Root’s bat.

However, he lost his wicket for 33 in the second innings as well. But, this was the highest score from England’s side. Root is the highest run-scorer in Tests this year.  He has scored 1277 runs in 10 Tests at an average of over 67. He has scored 5 centuries.

Root is a big disaster for the Indian team and it is very important to break them in the Test match to be held in Leeds and Jasprit Bumrah can come in handy in this.  Bumrah has dismissed him twice in the series.
