Iran are pitted against England, USA and Wales in Group B. Their fixtures are:

21st November: England vs Iran (06:30 PM IST), Khalifa International Stadium

25th November: Wales vs Iran (03:30 PM IST), Ahmed bin Ali Stadium

30th November: Iran vs USA (12:30 AM IST), Al Thumama Stadium

Iran poses a wide variety of experience in attack and mid-field with the likes of Taremi, Ansarifard, Azmoun and Jahanbakhsh holding fort.

Given the nature of this time’s World Cup being mid-season, we can expect surprises as all teams are returning from a partly played domestic season.

A win or two early on for them could see them have the required spark and energy to ensure progress.

They lack match-winning experience in terms of titles but a chance to play at the World Stage is where they aspire to be.
