Kudus scores brace as Ghana keep their RO 16 hopes alive with a 3-2 win over South Korea in Group H


Ghana 3-2 South Korea: Mohammed Kudus struck a brace as Ghana beat South Korea 3-2 in their Group H match on Monday to gain first points.

Salisu broke the deadlock for Ghana before Kudus doubled the lead. Cho struck twice within minutes of the second half to make it 2-2 before the Ajax striker scored the winner to seal the win.

FIRST HALF

South Korea started the game well and looked more likely to score as they had more possession and committed more men forward.

However, it was Ghana that broke the deadlock as Salisu scored in the 24th minute.

The Ghana player latched onto the loose ball from Ayew’s cross before smashing it past the Korea keeper to get their 3rd goal of the tournament.

Soon after, Ghana picked up momentum and moved into overdrive. Kudus doubled the lead for the African side as he headed home from Ayew’s cross.

This put Ghana in total control of the game as they attacked with a lot more quality and authority.

Partey nearly tripled the lead towards the end of half time but Seung-gyu punched it away.

SECOND HALF

South Korea pressed with more intensity in the 2nd half as they knew they the pressure to get back into contention.

Ati-Zigi was called into action in the 53rd minute when he saved Cho’s header from 10 yards out.

ImageThe incessant pressure continued and was finally rewarded as Cho pulled one back with a diving header from Lee’s cross in the 58th minute.

Korea equalized in the 61st minute once again through Cho when he headed home from Kim’s deep cross.

Kudus put Ghana in the lead once again with a low finish into the far corner as he scored his 2nd goal of the contest.

The Ajax player continued his great form for country as well to give his side a crucial lead in the contest.

The Asian side had plenty of chances till the end of the game but Ghana’s defence defended resolutely and held onto the lead.
