WC 2022 goals conceded: The World Cup 2022 has been one of the most competitive ones with no side willing to take their opponents lightly.
The WC has already seen 5 goalless draws, which showcases the competitiveness of teams in order to keep their dreams alive in the competition.
However; there have been teams who require a change in defence approach as they have conceded goals in numbers which does not make for good reading.
At an early stage of the WC, clean-sheets are like gold dust and if achieved, give their back 4 more confidence as the tournament progresses.
Today, we look at the top 5 teams who have conceded most goals in the World Cup so far.

Serbia has conceded 5 goals in 2 group matches so far. The European side began their tournament with a 2-0 loss to Serbia before a 3-3 thrilling draw vs Cameroon.
The Serbian side could be considered unlucky for one goal when Richarlison scored a stunner via a bicycle kick.
However; the other goals have shown their lapse in defence and need improvement.
Serbia’s final match vs Switzerland is their final chance to have a good defensive showing if they are to stay alive in the competition.
Qatar
Qatar’s campaign came to an early end as they lost both their Group A match vs Ecuador and Senegal.
A 2-0 loss followed by a 3-1 defeat showcased how far off they are against the world in terms of the game.

The Canadian team did not make a triumphant return to the World Cup as they were the 2nd team to be knocked out.
After a close 1-0 defeat on MD 1 vs Belgium; Canada conceded 4 goals in their loss to Croatia to end their journey in Qatar.
Given it was a long-awaited return to the World Stage, Canada’s defence was poor vs Croatia and succumbed under pressure despite taking an early lead.
The inexperience at the heart of defence got to them which resulted in a short stay at the World Cup 2022.

A clean-sheet vs Wales showed vast improvement for Iran after 6 goals conceded vs England.
6-2 – Iran conceded six goals v England, the most they have ever shipped in a WC game and as many as in their last 2 participations combined (2014 and 2018). Conversely, they have never scored more in a single game in the competition (2, also 2-1 against the USA in 1998). Tennis. pic.twitter.com/3wOg8XuMhh

Iran’s World Cup hopes remain alive with that win over Wales but need another spirited performance vs USA.
Taremi and Co’s defence will be tested against a high-flying and quick-paced USA side.
Costa Rica
The CONCACAF side has conceded the most goals in the competition, 7 in 2 matches. All 7 were conceded vs Spain before they managed a clean-sheet vs Japan with a 1-0 win.
Costa Rica’s defence was exposed vs Spain as they could not cope with the quick-feet and movement of Spain’s attackers.
With their WC hopes alive, Costa Rica aim to improve in their final match vs Germany defensively.
