Just like him, there have been some of the greats gone by who’ve scored in the Champions League final and find their place in the history books.

Scoring in the main event comes with due pressure and to deliver when needed gives a player the highest of highs.

In the 2009 final, he scored the 2nd goal of Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Manchester United via a leaping header which beat Van der Sar comfortably.

The second came in 2011 against the same opponents in Wembley as Barcelona won 3-1 courtesy strikes from Pedro, Villa and Messi.

Messi owned the occasion on that night to ensure Barcelona weren’t caught by the English side as he put on one of football’s greatest spectacles.
