The growth of a football club after all is similar to a business; one need to maximize revenue through modes of jersey selling, winning silverware and the works.

Covid disrupted plans of all club’s world over, yet some have managed to keep the revenue generation at a high.

The Deloitte Money League ranks football clubs based on the revenue generated from football operations on an annual basis.

In 2022, they released the list of highest revenue generating Football Clubs recently and we look at the top 5 football clubs that have made the cut.

Manchester United

Despite going 5 seasons without any silverware, Manchester United as a brand continues to shine in terms of generating revenue.

During the Covid affected season, Manchester United generated €558M in terms of revenue.

From 2021 where they gained €580.4M and were in 4^th place, United has seen a significant drop in the rankings moving 1 place down and losing out on revenue.

Apart from Covid, United’s inability to challenge for titles and going on a fifth consecutive trophy-less campaign has seen them get affected.

Barcelona

From financial issues at the club to the fact of losing Lionel Messi at the start of the season, Barcelona has gone through the gamut of emotions in a season.

The Blaugrana side earned €582.1M in this list, which has seen a significant drop from the last time where they topped the list with €715.1M.

From 1^st to 4^th, Barcelona’s drop has been due to the above-mentioned reasons and their poor start to the season under Ronald Koeman.

Bayern Munich

The German side has continued their dominance this season as well alongside being one of the most successful teams in Europe.

Bayern won their 9^th consecutive Bundesliga title last season and continued their domination in Germany.

With €611.4M generated in terms of revenue, Bayern is 3^rd in the Deloitte List and maintain their position.

Last year, Bayern were 3^rd as well having generated €634.1.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid too have remained in 2^nd place from last year’s list having generated €640.7M.

The drop from 2021 where they earned €714.9M has been accounted due to Covid and Real Madrid’s inability to win the La Liga title or UCL.

Los Blancos did not enjoy the best of campaigns last year as City rivals, Atletico pipped them to the title whereas they were knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage.

Manchester City

From 6^th in 2021 to the top of the table in 2022, Manchester City has profited this year with a revenue of €644.9M.

Last year, Manchester City managed to earn €549.2M; which has seen a whopping 17% rise.

Apart from winning the Premier League last season, Manchester City won the EFL Cup as well as finished runners-up in the Champions League.

Blue Half of Manchester City has since 2012 been one of the most dominant English teams and have won the EPL in 3 of the last 4 seasons to prove the same.
