Most expensive FIFA WC: The FIFA World Cup 2022 is upon us in less than 2 months-time as we head back to the club football post the break.
The recent international break was the last one of this year as the next international break will be for the first time in its history a FIFA World Cup break.
The FIFA World Cup in 2022 will be a first ever Winter World Cup set to be hosted in Qatar and it could not get more exciting.

Today, we will be talking about the top 5 most expensive FIFA WC’s to have been played in the history of the sport.
Money, People, Culture are some of the many combinations that are found during the tournaments and it’s time we look at just how much it takes to make such events a raging success every 4 years.
2006- Germany
Germany staged the 2006 event which is considered as one of the greatest FIFA World Cup’s to have ever taken place.
Berlin hosted the finals which was won by Italy; being their 4th title as they beat France in the final on penalties.
Since 1986 World Cup, Only Two Midfielders have won the Golden Ball award in FIFA World Cup.

The WC was known for the infamous headbutt by Zidane on Materazzi but barring that the event was nothing short of a treat. The 2006 edition costed a phenomenal €4.5BN.
2002- Korea/Japan

Japan in combination with Korea hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup, which costed €7.3BN.
Brazil won that edition of the World Cup as they beat Germany in the final at the Yokohama Stadium to register their 5th world title.
This was also the first World Cup to be held in Asia and was also the last one to use the golden goal rule.
2018-Russia

Russia hosted the 2018 edition of the World Cup which costed a massive €12BN. It was estimated that more than 3 million people attended games during the tournament.
France won their 2nd World Cup during this edition when they beat Croatia 4-2 in the finals at Moscow.
Luka Modric was voted the tournament’s best player as the Croatian led his side to a first-ever FIFA World Cup final.
2014-Brazil

At €15.6BN, Brazil hosted the 2nd most expensive FIFA WC in the history of the sport in 2014.
Brazil headed into the WC as one of the top teams but suffered a 7-1 hammering at the hands of Germany in the semi-final to dash their hopes of a 6th title.
Germany beat Argentina 1-0 in the final to lift their 4th title through Gotze’s effort in extra time. This was the 2nd time Brazil hosted the event after doing so previously in 1950.
2022-Qatar
At a whopping budget of €229BN, Qatar is set to host a first ever Winter World Cup in November 2022.
The World Cup for the first time is set to be played mid-season, where teams will gather for the event before returning to domestic action.
There has been plenty spoken about the human rights issues regarding the World Cup but preparations showed a different picture.
