The Carabao Cup is one of the domestic titles in England which is immensely respected all over the world.

Over the years, some of the top English teams have succeeded in ensuring Carabao Cup success.

After last night’s success for Manchester United, we look at the 5 teams who have won the Most Carabao Cup trophies in the history of the competition.

Chelsea

The Blues have won this competition 5 times in their history alongside 4 runners-up finishes.

In the 20^th century, Chelsea managed to win it twice in 1965 and 1998. But since the turn of the century, they have tripled their success rate with titles in 2005, 2007 and 2015.

Last season’s Chelsea came within touching distance of making it 6 wins but were beaten on penalties by Liverpool.

Aston Villa

Villa is another side with 5 titles to their name and 4 runners-up finishes in the competition.

All their success came in the 20^th century mainly 1961, 1975, 1977, 1994 and 1996.

Aston Villa haven’t been successful since the turn of the century but have come ridiculously close to lifting it twice.

They finished in 2^nd place in 2010 before repeating the same feat a decade later.

Manchester United

Last night’s success got Manchester United their 6^th Carabao Cup title and a first since 2017.

United have been of England’s top sides in domestic cup competitions but EFL Cup success hasn’t been kind to them.

They won the title in 1992 before adding 5 to their tally in 2006,2009,2010, 2017 and 2023.

The recent success was a massive relief to the fans of the club as United lifted their 1^st title in more than 5 seasons.

Erik ten Hag became the latest manager to win this competition; being the first Dutchman to do so in the competition’s history.

Manchester City

The Blue Half of Manchester pipped their neighbors to the Carabao Cup title as they have won it 8 times.

Manchester City have also managed a sole runner-up finish in the competition; being 1974.

Liverpool

Liverpool are the ultimate top dogs of England in this competition having won it for a record 9 times.

The Reds won the title on 4 occasions in the 20^th century and added another 5 to their tally post the turn of the century.

Such has been their consistency and drive to win this competition, that they do start favourites whenever the competitions rolls along.

Their last success came in 2022 when they beat Liverpool on penalties. Apart from this, Liverpool has secured a runners-up spot 4 times as well.
