The Belgian manager was shown the door after his side’s disappointing exit from the World Cup in the group stage.

Belgium crashed out after a goalless draw vs Croatia, which saw them finish 3rd in the group with 4 points from 3 matches.

It was a last chance for their Golden Generation to strike gold but they were rather poor in the showpiece event as the likes of Hazard, De Bruyne and Lukaku all failed to show up.

Lukaku had 4 chances to see his side through vs Croatia, but missed all of them to rue another missed opportunity.

The manner of Belgium’s performances was enough to see Martinez step down from the managerial position.

The South American side haven’t won the World Cup since 2002 and this was their best chance due to the quality of the squad at Tite’s disposal.
